Flint Henry is based on Fletcher Hanks.  Fletcher Hanks was an artist in the very early days of comics who wrote and drew some really whacked out stories.

The site “Dangerous Minds” has an article ( which you can check out here http://dangerousminds.net/comments/the_astonishingly_incompetent_superhero ) that describes how “Hanks drew superhero comics for a terribly short time—1939 to 1941—before dropping off the map altogether. It’s a bit of a miracle that we have so many of his comics in print, and much of that is due to the heroic labors of Paul Karasik”.  It adds that “In 2007 Karasik publishedI Shall Destroy All The Civilized Planets!” and in 2009You Shall Die By Your Own Evil Creation!“” which collects pretty much all of his comics.  The article also states that “I Shall Destroy All The Civilized Planets”  “contains a 16-page comic by Karasik about discovering Hanks’ work and meeting with his (it turns out) estranged son”.  This story clearly shows that Hanks was an abusive drunk, who ended up abandoning his family and freezing to death.

The article goes on to add that “Hanks’ work had two primary characters, “Stardust the Super Wizard” and “Fantomah the Mystery Woman of the Jungle,” and a host of less interesting characters like Space Smith, Big Red McLane, and Whirlwind Carter”.  In the article Karasik is quoted as saying that “part of the fascination Hanks exerts is that he is a rare early case of a true auteur, a comics artist who “wrote, penciled, inked, lettered, and, I think, colored his work”.

I’ve read I Shall Destroy All The Civilized Planets!” and “You Shall Die By Your Own Evil Creation! and honestly I think only the Stardust comics are even “so crazy their good” good, and even those start to get stale especially when Stardust gets a bunch of kid sidekicks.  Still there’s something interesting about seeing these angry weird tales  that were made before the “rules” for making comics were established.

Anyways that’s that for this week. Next time we see Flint Henry’s Q-boy story.  Tuesday- Thurday there will be new Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations.  Hope you enjoy and see ya next time!

So Q-boy dumps Miss Direction and finds a new girlfriend in Muffina Winters.  So if you’ve been reading these comics for a while I’ve been hinting around with this character for a while (specifically in these comics http://qr.net/bzznB & http://qr.net/bzzma ).  So yeah she’s basically this universe’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Each panel of this comic is based on covers drawn by John Romita Sr. (who Paulie Damiko is based on).

That’s pretty much it. Next time Eddy meets the drunken master and tried to recruit him. Also new Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations Tuesday-Thursday. Hope you enjoy and see ya next time!

Some of you may be new and only have seen The Big Ol’ Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations 24 Hourly Comics Jamboree Spectacular on Hourly Comics Day and Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations which started last week so welcome to Q-boy Shorts.  I really wish I could say I was smart enough to have planned that this comic featuring a guy called “The Reluctant Romantic” and involving a date ended up being posted on Valentine’s Day, but sadly I’m not.  So anyways Paulie Damiko is based on comic artist John Romita who took over drawing Spider-Man after Steve Ditko.

Panel one is based on this cover to “Our Love Story #4” a romance comic drawn by John Romita. And the “waay out of your league” line in Panel 3 is based on the big reveal of Mary Jane in Amazing Spider-Man #42 which will be referenced again in the next Q-boy Short comic. Speaking of the next comic next time there’s heartbreak when Q-boy meets a new girl.  Have a happy V-day, don’t be reluctant with your romance, and see ya again with Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations Tuesday-Thursday.

Q-boy Short #45 Talking Himself Through One / The History Of Q-boy Part 43 (Censored)

Q-boy Short #45 Talking Himself Through One / The History Of Q-boy Part 43 (Censored)

This one is based on this famous Spider-man story from Amazing Spider-man #33 where after a fight with Dr. Octopus he’s trapped under tons of machinery and has to struggle to get free.  The challenge with this comic was taking a story that took many pages and summing it up in one.  All the panels in this comic are based on panels from Spider-man #33. I tried to pick what I felt were the best panels from this sequence in Spider-man #33 to represent the struggle.

The “Instant Evolution”/”Level 2” stuff is basically the Q-boy version of going Super Saiyan from Dragonball.  You’ll definitely see this again in the future.

That’s about it for this one, folks. Next time we meet a guy called “The Reluctant Romantic” in a resturant, and the story this inspire.  Hope you enjoy, and see ya then!

And so we start this year with the first post of 2016.  The subject of this comic, Melvin Wilcox, is based on artist and Spider-Man c0-creator, Steve Ditko.  As suggested by this comic Ditko is a very private person and big on the ideas of Objectivism .

Panel 3 has poses based on the cover of Thor #160 and the cover of The Amazing Spider-Man #19

Panel 4 is based on this page from Strange Tales #116

Next time Q-boy must overcome a great burden… That’s a pretty big hint if you know your famous Spider-Man stories.  Anyways hope you enjoy and see you next time!

Q-boy Short Holiday Special 2 – The Dimes Before Christmas… A Contest For Every Piece On Earth

Q-boy Short Holiday Special 2 –  The Dimes Before Christmas… A Contest For Every Piece On Earth

qbsxmas2

I honestly would like to do more holiday comics but I usually forget about it until it’s too late.  Christmas though is advertised so far in advanced that I actually have time to make one.  So I was racking my brain trying to come up with idea for a Christmas themed comic, and I woke one day and thought of “Superman: Peace On Earth” by Alex Ross, and then I thought of most of the rhymes which I quickly jotted them down.  I had recently rewatched Felicia Day’s web series “The Guild” on DVD and there was a special feature where they did their version of “The Night Before Christmas” so that inspired the rhymes.  Then I got the daunting/scary idea of actually trying to do the comic in a painted style like Alex Ross.  So I based the panels of the comic the following Alex Ross images…

So that’s that.  Since this will be the last post for this year I’d like to thank you all for reading these comics, and give an extra special thank you to all of you who have liked, retweeted, favorited, or shared these comics in any way.  I seriously appreciate it more than you can know.

As I mentioned in the last post I’ll be changing the name of these “Q-boy Shorts” comics to “The History Of Comics With Q-boy”.  Some other big plans for next year are the return of “The Bastardized Ninja” and the launch of a third comic “Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations”. This new comic will be sorta like heroes and villians talking in the confessional room in a reality show. The plan for now is to continue the Q-boy comics until I get to the end of the Silver Age of Comics and then to take a break.  During that break The Bastardized Ninja comics will be posted.  With this new comic “Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations” the plan is to post these comics 3 times a week between posts of the other comics… We’ll see how it goes.  Anyways I hope you enjoy, happy holidays and have a great new year!

Oh yeah and I saw Star Wars yesterday and it kicked ass!
