With much fanfare this comic introduces Admiral A. This is another comic where I had a ton of material. So as I write this I know I’m going to have to cut some stuff.

Forget All That! Is “Sailor Moon” Good?

I started going down this road yesterday… When “Sailor Moon” first came out in English I hate-watched it for a while. Now I’m rewatching it again to write about these ”Admiral” characters. So far I’ve watched the original English dub of the first season. I also watched a newer better dub of Season 1. On paper “Sailor Moon” isn’t a good show. It’s repetitive and filled with dues ex machinas that solve everything. Characters gets powers and abilities whenever they need it. On top of that you have the constant re-used animation and villains with unclear goals.

Yet there’s something addictive about it. It somehow is more than the sum of it’s parts. My best guess is they always seem to throw some mystery at you. That seems to keep things interesting enough to keep going. There’s a goldmine of stuff to make fun of.

Time to do some mining…

That’s it for this week. Check out new “Criminal And Crimefigher Conversations” Tuesday-Thursdays. Also I should mention I’m putting a hold on “The History Of Comics With Q-boy”. It will return though. I’ll get back to it once I’m done designing all these “Admiral” characters. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

How did I get on this whole “Sailor Moon” thing to begin with? Well, I was trying to think of something to do for the 200th of these conversations. For a while I kept seeing “Sailor Moon” pop on “IG”, “Facebook”, and “Twitter”. More often than not it was a Black “Sailor Moon”. That’s when I thought to myself “yeah she’s important enough of a character that the comic needs a version of her”.

“Sailor Moon” might be the very first thing you think of when you think of the word “anime”. The iconic “sailor outfit” beats even images from “Dragonball”, “Akira”, or “Ghost In A Shell”. Is it good though? Do I like it? These are questions I still can’t give a definitive answer to.

 sailormoon

I’ll get more into that later though. Today’s comic pokes some fun at “Sailor Moon says”. They were segments that were at the end of most episodes of the original English dub. That dub being a whole conversation in itself. Tomorrow, we finally meet Admiral A. She and Admiral Star share the stages and well… You’ll see… Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

Here I introduce my “Gamora” character. She’s another of The Renegades Of Reality are my “Guardians Of The Galaxy” characters. These characters are a little different than the other. They are in most ways parodies of the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” team. Some of them though, are mixes of several characters. “Badassia” is a mixture of :

  • “Gamora”, (of course)
  • “Aeryn Sun” from “Farscape”
  • “Sarah Conner” from “Terminator
  • “Leela” from “Futurama
  • & “Samus” from “Metroid”

I noticed all these characters were the same type. Also with “Space King” I combined:

  • “Star Lord” (again of course)
  • “John Criton” from “Farscape”
  • & “Phillip J. Fry” from “Futurama”

These characters were also the same type. The “normal” guy thrust into crazy space adventure. There’s also several “unspoken things” between these two character types.

The other big thing in this comic is the “twist” to “Sailor Moon” for “Admiral Star” and her team. I debated hinting at it yet, but I figured a character like “Badassia” would have to say something about it. Besides I have more up my sleeve…

Tomorrow Admiral Star and J-Pop have another conversation. Things go a little different this time. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

This Week’s Episode Of “The Flash”… For Real?!

I have to get this out of the way. This week’s episodes of “The Flash” might be the dumbest thing I’ve seen in a while. It’s so bad that they should stop take a few weeks or whatever and do it over. The whole “Savitar” thing is too much. This represents everything that been wrong with “The Flash” since season 2:

  • The nonsense science
  • The repetitive “speed” villains/characters
  • The fact “Barry” causes all the problems

Another thing is, if “Caitlyn” is only going to be a villain then screw it and turn her back. Especially if the new blonde chick is taking her place. She sucks! I thought they were going to make a edgier “Caitlyn” with powers. If she’s a straight villain though I’ll pass. This show might have taken the crown for worst “CW” “DC Comics” show. Your move “Supergirl”.

On to this actual comic. I got into the “Sailor Moon”/ “Sailor (V) Venus” last time. Another thing about it that “Sailor V” is with little expection “Sailor Moon” but better. Look at “Sailor Moon’s” characteristics:

  • Dumb
  • Clumsy
  • A Crybaby/Coward
  • Has a hairstyle everyone makes fun of
  • General screw up
  • Always needs to helped/rescued even though she has the one hit kill move that solves everything

sailormoon

“Sailor V” seems to be the opposite. Even when she first appears she saves all the other “Sailor Scouts” by herself. Again this never seems to be address. She joins and helps and seems to accept “Sailor Moon” as leader even though she’s way more qualified. Haha deconstructing is fun!

That’s it for this week! Check out new “Criminal And Crimefigher Conversations” on Tuesdays-Thursdays. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations 200B– Admiral Star & Special-Girl On Special-Girl’s Authority

So as we saw in the last comic Admiral Star is my version of “Sailor Moon”. As this comic mentions she’s half Black and half Korean. So if you know “Sailor Moon” you know that “Sailor Venus/ Sailor V” actual came first. She was also so famous in “Sailor Moon’s” world that she had video games, comics, and movies about her.

“Sailor Moon” idolizes “Sailor V” and then one day she appears and is part of the team. She now leads this chick she idolizes. This is not addressed much in “Sailor Moon”. Also is “Sailor V” rich from all this stuff? She doesn’t seem to be.

brokemf

That’s part one of the jokes from yesterday’s comic. “Admiral A” who is my version “Sailor Venus” is WAY richer and more poplar than “Admiral Star”. This will be a bigger part of tomorrow’s comic.

Speaking of which, tomorrow Admiral Star meets J-Pop . Then Admiral Star make a wrong assumption and things go bad from there. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

Hard to believe we’ve already reached 200 of these comics. It seems like 100 couldn’t have been THAT long ago. It’s so great to be able to mix and match all these characters.

I started with somewhere around 20 and I’ve WAY more than doubled that. For this week alone I made up 4 new ones. Space King (“Star Lord”), Admiral Star (“Sailor Moon”), and Sadistic Squirrel (“Rocket Raccoon”). These are the characters in this comic. I also made a “Gamora” character, but I didn’t end up using her.

Enough of this let’s get to the…

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2 Review

First the most important question. Is it as good as the original? No. This was near impossible to achieve though. Granted this is a VERY good movie. It is VERY funny. There’s good news and bad news for comic book movies in general:

Good news: I doubt there will be a bad “Marvel” movie again. They seem to have figured things out.

Bad news: I doubt there will be any comic book movie that will crack the top 5 ever again. In case you’re wondering they are:

  1. The Dark Knight
  2. Avengers 1
  3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  4. Guardians Of The Galaxy 1
  5. Deadpool

In the case of most of these movies you can’t recapture the magic. Of course I hope I’m wrong. “Vol.2” is a deeper movie with bigger stakes, but it’s not a “tight” as the original. Sometimes it feels like we’re stopping to look at things. Like the director is saying “look at this isn’t it great!”. One thing I liked a lot is that these characters don’t hesitate to kill. It’s arguable that even “Baby Groot” catches a body. It’s not as good as the original, but it’s still very good. Of course go see it if you haven’t.

Tomorrow we continue the 200th comic celebration with 200B. Admiral Star (who I’ll get more into tomorrow) meets Special-Girl it’s less than friendly. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!
