Q-boy Short # 44 The Serious Effectiveness Of The Mysterious Objectivist /The History Of Q-boy Part 43

Q-boy Short # 44 The Serious Effectiveness Of The Mysterious Objectivist /The History Of Q-boy Part 43

qbs44

And so we start this year with the first post of 2016.  The subject of this comic, Melvin Wilcox, is based on artist and Spider-Man c0-creator, Steve Ditko.  As suggested by this comic Ditko is a very private person and big on the ideas of Objectivism .

Panel 3 has poses based on the cover of Thor #160 and the cover of The Amazing Spider-Man #19

Panel 4 is based on this page from Strange Tales #116

Next time Q-boy must overcome a great burden… That’s a pretty big hint if you know your famous Spider-Man stories.  Anyways hope you enjoy and see you next time!

Q-boy Short Holiday Special 2 – The Dimes Before Christmas… A Contest For Every Piece On Earth

Q-boy Short Holiday Special 2 –  The Dimes Before Christmas… A Contest For Every Piece On Earth

qbsxmas2

I honestly would like to do more holiday comics but I usually forget about it until it’s too late.  Christmas though is advertised so far in advanced that I actually have time to make one.  So I was racking my brain trying to come up with idea for a Christmas themed comic, and I woke one day and thought of “Superman: Peace On Earth” by Alex Ross, and then I thought of most of the rhymes which I quickly jotted them down.  I had recently rewatched Felicia Day’s web series “The Guild” on DVD and there was a special feature where they did their version of “The Night Before Christmas” so that inspired the rhymes.  Then I got the daunting/scary idea of actually trying to do the comic in a painted style like Alex Ross.  So I based the panels of the comic the following Alex Ross images…

So that’s that.  Since this will be the last post for this year I’d like to thank you all for reading these comics, and give an extra special thank you to all of you who have liked, retweeted, favorited, or shared these comics in any way.  I seriously appreciate it more than you can know.

As I mentioned in the last post I’ll be changing the name of these “Q-boy Shorts” comics to “The History Of Comics With Q-boy”.  Some other big plans for next year are the return of “The Bastardized Ninja” and the launch of a third comic “Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations”. This new comic will be sorta like heroes and villians talking in the confessional room in a reality show. The plan for now is to continue the Q-boy comics until I get to the end of the Silver Age of Comics and then to take a break.  During that break The Bastardized Ninja comics will be posted.  With this new comic “Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations” the plan is to post these comics 3 times a week between posts of the other comics… We’ll see how it goes.  Anyways I hope you enjoy, happy holidays and have a great new year!

Oh yeah and I saw Star Wars yesterday and it kicked ass!

Well looks like Q-boy and U are in trouble with their girlfriends, and said girlfriends have a beef with Q-girl.  This comic was made from and inspired by three comic book covers drawn by Joe Kubert who Joesph Hubert is based on. These covers are…

  1. Rima The Jungle Girl #4 which you can check out here
  2. Enemy Ace #142  which can be seen here
  3. Weird War Tales #9 that can be viewed here

I think the rest pretty much speaks for itself. Next time we’ll take a little break from our storyline for our second annual holiday special. Also I figure now would be a good time to mention that at some point I’ll be renaming this “Q-boy Short” comics as “The History Of Comics With Q-boy”.  As always hope you enjoy, and see ya next time!

Q-boy Short # 42 The Teacher And His Less Than Conventional Tactics

Q-boy Short # 42 The Teacher And His Less Than Conventional Tactics

qbs42

This one’s a weird one if I say so myself… Here’s some explanations in case you don’t get some things…

Joseph Hubert is based loosely based on the legendary comic book artist Joe Kubert who is the father of the two great comic book artists Adam and Andy Kubert. He is also the  founder of the Kubert School which is probably the most famous school to focus on cartooning and graphic art.

The idea behind this comic is making the school seem like the training area in the movie “Enter The Dragon”, or the area where Pai Mei trained Beatrice Kiddo in “Kill Bill”. “Kill Bill” also sorta inspired the whole thing with Joseph’s name in yellow, the codename, and the translation into Japanese.

The turtle shell thing is referencing one of the early parts of “Dragon Ball” where Goku and Krillin train with Master Roshi while where heavy turtle shells like he wears to get stronger.

Finally the whole “Joseph Hubert has joined the party” thing is a reference to role-playing video games, particularly Final Fantasy.

That’s pretty much it for this week. Next time we’ll see an example of Mr. Hubert’s work, and Q-boy and U’s girlfriends Miss Direction and Distaction Lass return… They aren’t happy… Hope you enjoy and see ya time!

Eddy finds a new ally and begins a journey to find 7 great artists.  So this is a whole take off on Deathrow Records in the 90’s and some infamous things that happened during that time.  A great movie about it (and one I specifically re-watched for reference) is the documentary “Welcome To Deathrow”.  Next time Eddy goes in search of, and tries to recruit the first of the 7 artists known as “The Teacher”.

Oh yeah did anyone check out Supergirl?  So far its surprisingly good, and a lot better than I expected from the previews of it.  Anyways hope you enjoy and see ya next time!

So the two old friends finally settle their differences… and use a lot of alliteration.  It would be great if Jack Kirby was still alive, and he and Stan Lee could share cameo spots in Marvels movies and shows.

Panel 1 of this comics is based on this image of Thor fighting the thing from Fanstatic Four # 73

Panel 2 is based on this image of Dr. Doom fighting the Silver Surfer from Fanstatic Four # 57

Panel 3 is based on the cover of Fanstatic Four # 93

Panel 4 is based on the cover of Daredevil # 7

Next time Eddy is goes to a movie, meets a new friend, and things change for Q-boy comics.  Hope you enjoy and see ya next time!

So things between Jerry and Eddy go from contentious to straight up violent and weird.  This comic is based on images by Jack Kirby (who Jerry is very loosely based on) including this Captain America pic, the cover to Daredevil #43, the cover of Thor #147, & this New Gods pic.  As crazy as this fight is it gets even crazier next time.  Hope you enjoy and see you next time!

Q-boy Short #38 Hairiness With Big Bush And Her Boo / The History Of Q-boy Part 36

Q-boy Short #38 Hairiness With Big Bush And Her Boo / The History Of Q-boy Part 36

qbs38I’m just going to say it now, I’m not a big fan of the Inhumans.  I’m even less of a fan of Marvel trying to make the Inhumans replacements for mutants because Fox owns the rights to the X-men.  To be fair though, I saw the Inhumans motion comic thing and that was pretty good.  Anyways I took elements from the covers of Fantastic Four #22, Amazing Adventures #1, and  X-men #3 for this comic.  Next time Eddy and Jerry’s issues with each other come to a head.

I went to Baltimore Comic-Con yesterday and had some fun.  Got some stuff signed and got a couple dvd’s.  The guy I got a ride with wanted to leave early though so that kinda sucked.  All in all a good day though.  Anyways folks, see ya next time and hope you enjoy!

So Q-boy’s team gets forced out of their own book, and replaced by the Fruity Four. We also meet The Underwater Monarch.  For the Monarch I figured I’d just combine Aquaman and Namor as they basically serve the same purpose in the DC and Marvel Universes respectively.  We can also see that things are continuing to get intense between Eddy and Jerry.   The comic is based on the covers to Fantastic Four #4, 14, & 27 . Next time we see the return of the Unsavory Fresh-Men, and some new characters they’re not too happy with.  That’s all I got for this one.  Hope you enjoy, and see ya next time.

Q-boy Short #36 Blindly “Stephanie Browning” It / The History Of Q-boy Part 34

Q-boy Short #36 Blindly “Stephanie Browning” It / The History Of Q-boy Part 34

qbs36

If you don’t get the title then congratulations you’re not that big of a nerd! Stephanie Brown was a character that started in the Robin comic as a crimefighter called The Spoiler.  She then became Robin herself for a short time, then she got killed, then she got better and became Batgirl.  People really liked her as Batgirl so of course DC relaunched its whole universe and changed almost nothing in the Batman comics except making her no longer exist.  I think they brought her back not to long ago though.  So all of that is to say her name is a reference to how Spiderous-Man is spoiling the the title of the comic.

This comic is made of of elements of X-men #35 (Spiderous-Man’s pose); Flash #123 (the two Q-boy’s running); and Daredevil #4 (the rest). Flash #123 is one of the most important comics in the Silver Age of comics as it is the first to introduce the concept of multiple Earths in DC Comics.

Next time yet another new group of heroes is introduced and Q-boy and happy about it.  In addition things between Eddy and Jerry continue to be contentious.  Hope you enjoy and see ya next time!
