What’s Wrong With “Spider-Man: Homecoming”

  • The Vulture – Though Michael Keaton plays him well his whole deal doesn’t make any sense. With the tech him and his people are able to create there’s much easier (legal or illegal) ways to make money
  • Hacking – Pretty much all shows with tech people are guilty of this type of stuff, but still we’re supposed to believe some high school kid can hack into a suit created by one of the smartest people in the world. Get the hell outta here!
  • Zendaya’s Character- She’s annoying and then they reveal something about her that makes it SO much worse. It’s like “Robin” in “The Dark Knight Rises”. That still annoys the hell outta me
  • “Flash Tompson” – I give em’ credit for trying something different than the stereotypical “jock bully”, but this didn’t quite work.
  • Needs more “Iron Man” – Not really the movie’s fault, but yeah just give us “Iron Man 4”.

I’ll get more into “Perfect” Spiderous-Man later. In short, he’s this world’s “Miles Morales/ Ultimate Spider-Man”. I’ve hinted about him for a while, but finally decided what I wanted to do with him. He’s the nightmare version of what happens when you give a kid a bunch of money…

“Spider-Man: Homecoming”: “Iron Man Jr.”

Is Fine With Me

Let’s start with the obvious questions. Is it the best “Spider-Man” movie? Yeah, but that’s not saying much. Is it better than “Wonder Woman”? Well yeah, but “Wonder Woman” wasn’t very good. It’s a mid-tier “Marvel” movie. A solid B. A straight 80% B. I was never bored by it. I’d say overall my feeling was “this is fine”. Some have a problem with it, but this is more of an “Iron Man Jr.” movie than a “Spider-Man”, but that’s fine with me. There are some problems but I’ll get into those tomorrow.

Be skeptical of anyone telling you they’re going to lower your taxes. An asshole might ask something like “why do you like taxes”? Nobody likes taxes, but everybody (including the assholes against taxes) like the services they help to fund. When you lower taxes often you’re going to either loses needed services or someone’s going to try to do something “the cheap way”. Ask the people in Flint how the “the cheap way” works out.

Some might ask why I keep using the word “asshole”. I use it because I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt. I’m assuming they know all this. Therefore they’re just appealing to people’s worst instincts for money and or power. Also they’re doing this knowing the damage it will cause in people’s lives. That right there makes them an asshole by any definition!

I said a lot of what I had to say about Grover Norquist’s “guitar tweet” yesterday. Also as I write this it is actually Independence Day so I’ll keep this short. You almost always pay more in the long run when you cut taxes. This is especially true if the word “deregulation” is being thrown around. You not only pay more in actual money but in crime, health, and service.

How What Are Born?!

This whole week of comics is inspired by this tweet last week from Grover Norquist. If you don’t know who this is he the main “anti-tax” guy. Twitter quickly took to tearing this guy apart by schooling him on how taxes work. They showed him how sales taxes help to pay every part of getting the guitar. From road maintenance to police protection, to (if there’s still a music program) the class that would teach his kid to play the guitar.

Let’s go with this story though. Let’s say the sales tax in this story is 10%. I’m pretty sure the highest sales tax in any state is around 7% but let’s go with this to keep the math easy. The tax would be $3.50. Some parents would give the kid the extra money. Some would use this as a valuable lesson on how everything costs more than it seems. Grover here is an asshole and goes to “Twitter” to whine about it.

This isn’t what this argument is really about though. It’s really about how society works. Do we pay all pay a little extra to make society better or believe it’s “everyone for themselves”? Let’s adjust this story now… Let’s say the guitar now costs (an UNTHINKABLE) $50. In this world though, that extra money ensures that a poor kid whose parents have no insurance can get life-saving surgery. I figure even the stingiest parent gives their kid at least $15 a week for an allowance. So would you wait one week to save the kids life?

Some people would start with the excuses. “The parents don’t work hard enough”. “They should’ve worked harder in school”. The same school they don’t want to fund with taxes. The excuses are where it starts. That’s how assholes are born… Tomorrow these guys continue on. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

“Sailor Moon S” & “SuperS” : From Bad To Worse

I’ve now watched “Sailor Moon S” and “Sailor Moon SuperS”. These are season 3 and 4 of “Sailor Moon” if you don’t know. They only put of the second part of the “Viz” dub for “S” last week so I’ve only watched the “Cloverway” dubs… Gotta say “Sailor Moon” goes from bad to worse here…I’ll go into more detail about each season later but generally:

With “S”:

  • The new “Sailors” “Uranus” and “Neptune” take up way too much of the spotlight. They’re also not very interesting characters. These are the famous lesbian “Sailors”. The “Cloverway” dub tries to avoid the lesbian stuff. They then make the strange decision to make them cousins. For a big part of the season they won’t tell the other Sailors what they’re up to. Even though it would take them like 5 minutes. It’s dumb
  • I will say though I dislike “Rini/Chibiusa” less in this season. It’s funny that her powers don’t work most of the time and only cause pain without harming enemies.
  • At a certain point “Sailor Moon” has to transform, go “Super Saiyan” then do her one-hit kill move to kill enemies. This is also dumb
  • There’s a “Sailor” of destruction that it able to destroy an entire planet?! Why?! Again I say, WHAT IS THE NATURE OF THEIR POWERS?!
  • They commit the ulitmate sin here… They leave the big final fight as something you can’t see. In fact the whole last fight with the big bad is SO cheap. They use A LOT of still photos instead of showing action. That’s bullshit, man!

With “SuperS”:

  • For a while the show becomes like a bad American girl’s cartoon from the 80’s. There’s even a villain with a weird voice and a sidekick and a flying horse. This person isn’t the “real big bag” though. With the now obvious pattern of this show the “real big bad” shows up about halfway in. She’s “Queen Beryl 2”, the less interesting version. Time also gets wasted with every useless side character that should’ve disappeared forever by now
  • There’s some CREEPY stuff going down with “Rini/Chibiusa” and “Pegasus”. ESPECIALLY in the “Freaky Friday” episode where she and “Sailor Moon” switch ages
  • The name of the attacks at this point have become self-parody
  • They just say eff any thought about how gravity works in the last episode

“Sailor Moon” & “Goku” : Mutual Over-eaters

Pretty much this whole comic is about how “Sailor Moon” eats a lot.

It interesting because there’s an episode early on where she gains half a pound or something. “Sailor Moon” then tries starving herself and over-exercising to lose the weight. In the “DiC” dub they make a point to be like “you’re being ridiculous”. In the more accurate “Viz” dub people are almost like “yeah you’re gonna be a fat ass”. Overall, it seems in the “Viz” dub people are meaner to “Sailor Moon”. I actually think this make her more likeable and the show funnier overall.

Seeing as “Goku” is also known for eating I thought it was time for the titans of anime to meet. Since “Wonder Woman” is known to loves ice cream I figured an ice cream party would be the place.

I use to love ComicBookResources.com. Then one day it became cbr.com. Now most of the site is a hodgepodge of clickbait garbage. To be fair, they still SOME good articles though. I say all this because I had said my piece on the “Wonder Woman” movie. It was okay at best, but VERY overrated. Now there’s an article on cbr.com about how it’s the best superhero movie ever… I not even going to bother to link to it…

“Wonder Woman”: Lassoed Back In

In fact, you know what? I’m not even going go over it again. I’m going to add this though. There’s this general assumption that “Wonder Woman” is the best “DCEU” movie. Which is saying nothing by the way. It MIGHT be. Looking back though, “Man Of Steel” has more and better action. It was more grim and out-of-character, but was it worse? I don’t know. I’d have to watch both again and I don’t want to though…

Saying “Wonder Woman” is the best superhero movie is like saying “George H.W. Bush” is the best president. Sure he was better than “Dubya” or Trump, but that doesn’t make him the best. It doesn’t even make him good. Again people, stop the madness! It’s a C+ movie.

Wonder Woman: The Origin Of Clay Girl

“Wonder Woman” is a hard nut to crack. She’s a strange character with a strange origin. Her origin is under neverending revision. In the original version she got created from clay. This makes her not even a person. Then you combine that the fact she got raised on an all-women island. This is make for the story of the ultimate outsider. The outsider amongst outsiders. This is a story “Wonder Woman” doesn’t tell though. More recently, she it got changed to her being Zues’ daughter. Now she’s one of many demi-gods. In both version she didn’t earn her powers and she’s not special. None of this even gets into all the weird bondage stuff in her early days.

Then there’s her villains. I’ve pointed it out a few times in these comics but she only has two most people know. They’re “Cheetah” and “Giganta”. Neither of which seem to be a true match for “Wonder Woman”. The fact that neither of them is even hinted at in the movie was a mistake.

“Wonder Woman” still has no true arch-enemy. She still doesn’t have her “Joker” or “Lex Luthor” even after all these years. So in slight defense of the movie they had a hard job.

Tomorow Spiderous-Man gets replaced by Q-boy. He’s sent in to try and salvage this drunken madness. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

So yesterday I talked about having to do a lot of editing for the comic. This one was a LOT more. In fact as I write this I’m not even done yet.

“Wristcutters: A Love Story” is real a movie about a chick who commits suicide. She then ends up in a place that’s a little worse than here. I don’t remember much else about it. In real life I did get this movie while “picking the corspe” of a “Blockbuster” video that was closing. An old co-worker, Reagan Myers coined the term… Well as far as I know he did…

Tomorrow we switch gears as Admiral Lightning, Freedom Female, and Badassia are here. They talk about Freedom Female’s home the Isle Of Manless Maidens and Amish people. Also “Freedom Female: The Original World Protector” is comes out this weekend so that comes up.
