Can “Wonder Woman” break “DC’s” streak of bad movies? It’s possible. The trailer was pretty good. The only thing is there’s still no clear villain.  I see this as a bad sign.  This seems to indicate there’s either no real villain or the villain sucks.  This is a tough area for “Wonder Woman” as she only has 2 villains that a decent amount of people would know.  That’s “Cheetah” and “Giganta”.

On top of that you gotta fit whatever you plan to do around World War I. Having the movie take place during World War I as opposed to World War II where “Wonder Woman” actually debuted in  the comics is a decision I find particularly strange.  The only reason I can think of for doing it is to avoid comparisons to “Captain America”. Those comparisons to are unavoidable. It’s already noted that both feature soldier’s named “Steve” played by a guy named “Chris”.

I guess only time will tell… Tomorrow The Minstrel and Q-boy return to talk about school along with Slowku. Hope you emjoy and see ya then!

The Minstrel, Q-boy, & Muffina Winters On The Olympics

ccc-86-theminstrelqboymuffy

I haven’t watched one second of The Olympics.  I just don’t care.

So I decided I’m going to run with this whole “trying to make the comic relatable” thing I started last week for a while. Also as the comic suggests I’m keeping The Minstrel (my “Harley Quinn” based character if you didn’t know) around to ride on the wave of popularity “Harley Quinn” has gotten from “Suicide Squad”.

Muffina Winters (my “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” character if you didn’t know) if you notice is referred to as “the former
“Murderess Of Monsters”. She appeared a few times in this comic and “The History Of Comics With Q-boy”.  I have a whole story about it if I ever get around to it.

Tomorrow The Minstrel and Q-boy return and are joined by Freedom Female (the “Wonder Woman” character) to talk about anxiety. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

I was 6 of these comics ahead at one point then I totally changed my mind on what I wanted to do, and blew through that.  Then eventually I got 6 of these comics ahead again, and now… I’m maybe a little over halfway done with the next one.  “Writer Ricky” keeps wanting to put too much material in each comic and “Artist Ricky” has to tell him that means it got to be a double page. “Writer Ricky” says “so be it”, and that’s how I got where I am now.

All that aside, “The Bastardized Ninja” is actually the title character of my other comic (which is currently on hiatus but will return at some point). You can check out those comics here http://qr.net/bWPD8

Anyways like last time this comic is based on the work of Will Eisner.  Let’s get to the panels:

Next time a man known as “The Outlaw” tell his story of how got involved with Q-boy Comics. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations #85 The Minstrel, Q-boy, & The Mad Jester On Dating

Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations #85

The Minstrel, Q-boy, & The Mad Jester On Dating

ccc-85-theminstrelqboymadjester

So here I introduce my version of “The Joker” that I’ve been hinting at for some time, The Mad Jester. With that let’s get to “Suicide Squad’s” version of “The Joker”.

“DC” had an impossible task in trying create a new “Joker” for their movies after Heath Ledger’s performance in “The Dark Knight”.  It was the key part in what is still the greatest comic book movie ever made. I guess it’s natural to want to go in a very different direction because of this.  I think they went too far. The thing with this “Joker” is that I just don’t see “The Joker” as someone who would sit still long enough to get tattoos, or meticulously place knives so he can lay around them.  Then there’s the fact that this “Joker” seems to have limitless resources and seems capable of doing pretty much anything.  Really make you wonder what the hell “Batman” has been doing in this case.

Then there’s this “Joker’s” relationship with “Harley Quinn”.  To me a big part of their relationship is that “The Joker” treats her badly and it’s arguable if he even cares about her at all.  In this movie this is certainly not arguable.

A good version of “Suicide Squad” should be a pitch black comedy. This movie is more like a bunch of anti-heroes proving they’re actual heroes. Honestly, at the end of the day this movie just feel lazy. Like someone made decisions thinking “we got “Will Smith”, “Harley Quinn”, “The Joker”, & “Batman” cameos we don’t need a compelling villain, or things for the other characters to do, or plausible reasons for these characters to be in this group. I’ll end by repeating that the movie isn’t terrible, but if you’re willing the settle for “not terrible” you really need to reexamine what you’re doing.

That’s it for this week. Next week we start off with a new “The History Of Comics With Q-boy” where we see an adventure that involves (my other character whose comic is currently on hiatus) “The Bastardized Ninja” as he encounters several lady villains including The Minstrel.  Then on Tuesday-Thursday there’ll be more “Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations”. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations #84 The Minstrel, Q-boy, & Nodachi On The Struggle To Eat Healthy

Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations #84

The Minstrel, Q-boy, & Nodachi On The Struggle To Eat Healthy

ccc-84-theminstrelqboynodachi

“Katana” is a woman named after a sword so I just picked a different sword for this chatacter based o her, “Nodachi”. A nodachi is a super long sword like the one the “Sephiroth” from “Final Fantasy VII” uses.

So the general idea about this comic was making fun of attempting to make this comic more like a “normal” webcomic (many of which are focused on gags based around relatable topics).  Enough of this, back to talking about “Suicide Squad”. Let’s get to “Harley Quinn”.

In previous comics I made it pretty clear I wasn’t a big fan of “Harley Quinn” being part of “Suicide Squad” or her costume changes over time.  It just makes no logical sense why anyone would pick “Harley Quinn” to be part of “Suicide Squad”. She is unstable, unpredictable, and has no powers.  If any fairly athletic chick with a bat can make your black ops team you need to shut that team down and start over.

“Katana” much like “Jubilee” in “X-men: Apocalypse” is given very little to do. I think she only has two lines that are actually in English.  She’s just kinda thrown into it, and that’s it…

“Captain Boomerang” is given the big intro treatment (that leads to a “Flash” cameo (and he still looks stupid)) that “Deadshot” and “Harley Quinn” get but again he doesn’t do much.  There’s no part of this movie that really required the use of a boomerang.

“Killer Croc” looks really stupid and barely even speaks. I wish they made him like the version in “Batman The Animated Series” but that’s purely personal preference because that’s the version of the character I know.  He does actually use his special abilities by swimming through the sewer at one point (you don’t see it) and using his strength to throw something.

The other characters I either covered last time or it would be spoilery to talk about them much. The villain is stupid and their plans completely change without explanation. The plot shows no need for this particular group of characters besides maybe “El Diablo”. The action is weak. These so called “worst of the worst” are actually pretty tame and damn near heroic. All that and all the humor falls flat.

We’ll finish up with “Suicide Squad” as Q-boy, The Minstrel and in his first appearance (the “Joker” character) The Mad Jester discuss dating. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations #83

Frag Count, Death Poll & Kill Screen On The “Chain Gang Improbable” Movie

ccc-83-fragcountdeathpollkillscreen

So “Kill Screen” is my “Deadshot” character. I figured I’d continue with the video game theme I started with “Frag Count” being my version of “The Punisher”… More importantly though…

Here’s the short review of “Suicide Squad”… It’s “passable”… It’s not terrible but’s its nowhere near good. Since the comparisons have to be made I don’t think it’s even as good as “Marvel’s” worst move “Thor: The Dark World”. Which I’d say is a “C+” movie at best.

Now the long review… If this movie came out 10 years ago it might have been considered “pretty good”. This would be in the days when comic book movies got bonus points for having “comic accurate costumes”, and small references as Easter eggs. If this movie came out before “Deadpool” it might have been a lot less disappointing as well. To be kind I’ll start with the good:

  • The soundtrack is pretty good
  • Will Smith actually did a decent job. I thought I was gonna feel like “that’s Will Smit in a costume” the whole movie
  • “Harley Quinn” didn’t end up as annoying as I thought she might
  • Though I didn’t like this version of “The Joker” I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would

That’s pretty much it.  It never got super boring or do inexcusable things like “Man Of Steel” or “Batman V Superman” did, but those movies at least had some cool fight scenes. Generally, all the fighting has the camera too close so you can’t really see anything and most of the fighting isn’t with “real people” (boo!). Also most of the “Squad” doesn’t really do anything, and “the problem” could have been solved with any well-trained group of soldiers with missiles. Also things are “oversold” a lot in this movie. We get teased repeatedly about “El Diablo” using his powers and when he does (which is way too early in the movie to be effective) you’re like “that’s it?!”. They pointless say “Harley Quinn” is crazier and more fearless than “The Joker” (*eyeroll*). “Deadshot’s” daughter writes him EVERYDAY (gtfoh!). “Amanda Waller” is SO mean and badass… But then she does something super nice for “Deadshot” and “Harley Quinn”.

That’s where I’ll stop for now, and I’ll continue tomorrow. Next time Q-boy is called in to bring these conversations back on track and keep things focused on relatable topics as he speaks with The Minstrel and (new “Katanna” inspired character) Nodachi. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations #82 Spiderous-Man On Picking Sides (Censored)

Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations #82

Spiderous-Man On Picking Sides (Censored)

ccc-73.4-spiderousman

In the original story of “Spider-Man’s” origin from “Amazing Fantasy” #15 “Spider-Man” gets a taste of fame and immediately acts like a total dick. Then some criminal runs past him as some super old security guard is chasing him. For some reason it’s suppose to be his responsibility to stop the guy.  He easily could’ve, but it needs to be pointed out that he literally has seconds to do it. It’s one panel. The next panel the criminal is on the “express elevator”. Then “Spider-Man” REALLY acts like a dick and says “he’s only looking out for number one”. Then as we all know the criminal kills “Uncle Ben”.

It seems like every version since has tried to make “Spider-Man” more sympathetic, but it changes the lesson from “don’t act like a dick” to “let people push you around”.  In the first “Spider-Man” movie now the people the criminal stole from  just cheated “Spider-Man” out of money. Also the criminal usually has a gun in other versions of the story.  Even with his spider powers he ain’t bulletproof. So now “Spider-Man” is suppose to risk his life for people who cheated him otherwise he’s a bad guy?

With that we end this week. Next week check out new “Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations” on Tuesday-Thursday. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!
