The History Of Comics With Q-boy #60 An Outlaw’s Prayer For Vengence

The History Of Comics With Q-boy #60 An Outlaw’s Prayer For Vengence

qbs60

This comic is based on the work of Robert Crumb and Bobby Cakes is based on him. Robert Crumb is certainly a controversial figure, but he is undeniably a great artist.  He gained his fame mainly during the late 60’s and 70’s in the underground comics scene. The documentary about him from 1994 “Crumb” is really worth seeing if you haven’t.

The whole idea of having Q-boy Comics in this story have “7 great artists” and the whole Q-boy Comics being like “Deathrow” started with the idea of having Robert Crumb be like 2pac.  It was such a weird idea that I went with it.  Now let’s explain the panels:

  • Panel 1 is based on a panel from Crumb’s comic “My Troubles With Women” and the part in the thought bubble is based on a panel from another of his comics “The Adventures Of R. Crumb Himself” which you can check out here http://qr.net/bYtpa & here http://qr.net/bYtp2
  • Panel 2 is based on another panel from “My Troubles With Women” and a panel from another comic he did “Motor City” #2 which you can see here http://qr.net/bYtrY & here http://qr.net/bYttc
  • Panel 3 is based on a panel from a story Crumb did for “El Perfecto Comics”. The stuff in the thought balloon is based on a panel from his project from 2009 “The Book Of Genesis Illustrated” and one of the things he’s most famous for “Keep On Truckin'” a one page comic from “Zap Comix” #1 which you can check out here http://qr.net/bYtvg , here http://qr.net/bYtys , and here http://qr.net/bYtAb
  • Panel 4 is based on an unpublished cover for “Hulp Comics” (that I couldn’t do justice to the crosshatching in) which you can check out here http://qr.net/bYtEu
  • Panel 5 is based on a drawing of “Lightin’ Hopkins” from “R. Crumb’s Heroes Of Blues, Jazz, & Country” which you check out here http://qr.net/bYtCk
  • Panel 6 is based on a drawing of Crumb himself and David Zane Mairowitz from “R. Crumb’s Kafka” which you can check out here http://qr.net/bYtGf

Next time we continue with Bobby Cakes as he works with Q-boy Comics. Check out new “Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations” on Tuesday-Thursday. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

Before we get to this comic, looks like early reviews for “Suicide Squad” are coming in and it’s not looking good.  “Comic Book Resources” gave it a pretty good review though.  As I’ve said before I only think it’s going to be okay. We’ll see in a week though…

Anyways back to “Civil War II”. (SPOILERS for “Civil War II” #4)

There’s this whole part where “Iron Man” is going on and on about how he doesn’t want to fight but the “evidence” is “forcing his hand”…. Except the evidence shows the guy who can predict the future has always been right, and “Captain Marvel” used his info to save tons of lives. Even the lady “Captain Marvel” detained hasn’t been proven innocent (though it’s still stupid she did it. Seriously they don’t have other people to take care of stuff like that?). Nothing about the situation has forced “Iron Man’s” hand. That’s makes this whole series feel more and more like pointlessly going through the motions til’ we get to “Marvel’s” new status quo.

Tomorrow we check in with Spiderous-Man has he discusses his uncle and picking sides in a fight. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

As this comic might suggest “Civil War II” #4 pushed me to really disliking “Civil War II”.   The argument makes no sense;”Ironman’s” position makes no sense; and good characters are being killed for no reason.

(SPOILER ALERT for “Civil War” #4)

So “Iron Man” discovers that this kid that can predict the future can only see the most probable future (which I could’ve swore he already found out last issue) and somehow that’s suppose to change everything. So “Iron Man” assembles the “Illuminati” to tell them this, and they’re basically useless and say little more than “I dunno”. Then dumb stuff happens and it’s finally a face off with “Iron Man” and his heroes vs “Captain Marvel” and her heroes… Except “Captain Marvel” calls in the “The Guardians Of The Galaxy”… I don’t buy it… Even if some tie-in comic explains it better I still don’t buy it… People traveling from space to be a part of this dumb fight breaks my suspension of disbelief.

Next time Ms. Majors talks about this stuff. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

Anyone who’s not a kid or a rube knows that no major characters ever stay dead in comics. The worst thing about killing the “Hulk” is that there was no tension leading up to it.  It just felt like “okay this is what we’re doing for issue 3 ( of “Civil War II”)”. Give the “Hulk” a final rampage, or something huge to fight. Don’t just kill “Banner” basically out of nowhere and end it with that.

That’s how characters always die in comics now. They just suddenly get killed in some event. Then they come back. Rinse repeat. I guess what I’m trying to say is make deaths count.  I don’t care that the character is certainly coming back.  I watch “Dragonball” (which is usually pretty great about making deaths matter despite the fact characters ALWAYS get wished back). Just make remind me why the character is cool and let them do something awesome before they die.

That’s it for this week. New “Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations” Tuesday-Thurday. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

So “Marvel” has this new version of the “Hulk”, “Totally Awesome Hulk”.  He’s this character “Amadeus Cho” who’s super smart or something.  I don’t know much about him.  Part of “Marvel’s” plans after “Civil War II” is to take a bunch of the younger characters ( “Cho”, “Miles Morales”, “Ms. Marvel”, “Nova”, etc.) and put them together as a new version of “The Champions”.

I also touched on the “Kanye/Kim/Taylor Swift” thing and I don’t even care enough to get into it.

Tomorrow The Innovator talks about The Smasher. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

*SPOILER ALERT if you haven’t read “Civil War II” 3*

“Hawkeye” done went and killed “The Hulk”.  Character deaths in these crossovers aren’t even annoying anymore they’re just like “yeah whatever”.  Ya know what’s a great idea “let’s aggressively confront a guy who become a monsters when angry with a gang of superheroes, make accusations, and hack into his personal files”. Mind you this is after him not becoming “The Hulk” for over a year, and working to continue that streak.

Gotta say for the many faults of the original “Civil War” it had novelty and the art going for it.  The art in “Civil War II” is good but there seems to be far less action.

Tomorrow Ms. Majors dispels rumors about the death of The Smasher. Hope you enjoy and see ya then!

Now in “Marvel” there’s is or will be 2 “Captain Americas”, “Thors”, “Spider-Men”, and “Iron Men” at the same time.  That seems confusing from a branding perspective as well as within the “Marvel” universe itself. If someone yells out “Captain America” in a battle you don’t want 2 guys responding.  All of these choices were to help promote diversity which is admirable, but I really wish “Marvel” would just put the time and effort into creating entirely new characters, and using characters that already exist.  This is what they did with “Luke Cage”.  They got rid of the yellow shirt and the headband, and started using him.  Now he’s got a show coming out on “Netflix” after being part of the “Jessica Jones” show (which is based on the comic “Alias” where “Luke Cage” started being used again and gaining popularity).

“The Falcon” is awesome in the movies. So why not make the comic version of him more like the movie one? That’s what they did with “Nick Fury”. Anyways that’s it for this week.  Next week starts off with a “The History Of Comics With Q-boy” where America-Man is called in for a rescue mission and we meet the man known as Dick Anger. New “Criminal And Crimefighter Conversations” Tuesday-Thursday.  Hope you enjoy and see ya then!
